Heaven is Now
We have the opportunity to choose to create our reality based on our choices of either loving God and our neighbor or loving the material world. Heaven and Hell are states of being both here on earth and destinations in the afterlife. By participating in a spiritual community we begin to define our life’s purpose, or “use” in the world…thus creating heaven on earth.
History of the Lansing Swedenborgian Church
A Swedenborgian couple wanted to start a local church so their children could grow up in a loving community. The couple invited clergy from nearby churches and other guests to lead worship whenever possible. In the fall of 2005, Rev. Jennifer Tafel moved to town after graduating from theological school and began leading worship services once a month. Rev. Tafel worked with church officials to create a constitution and by-laws, which were ratified by the Michigan Association of the Swedenborgian Church in October 2006. The local congregation worked together to incorporate the church with the state. Since this time, the church hired Rev. Jennifer Tafel as their minister upon her ordination in June 2007. We’ve worshipped in the homes of congregants and rented a room at a local bookstore. We have found a location to call home.
About Us
The Swedenborgian Church and Its Teachings
The Swedenborgian Church bases its teachings on the Bible as illuminated by the works of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), a Swedish scientist and theologian. Swedenborg envisioned a new Christianity coming into being, revitalized by the Spirit of the Lord. Our church believes that the Lord Jesus Christ, as he promised to do, has come again, not indeed in a physical reappearance, but in spirit and truth; not only in a single event, but in a progressive manifestation of his presence among people.
We Believe in a Loving God
We believe that there is one God, known by many names. We worship Jesus Christ as our Lord and our God. The Christian trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are aspects of God just as soul, body, and life activities are aspects of each one of us.
Regeneration instead of Salvation
We are here to grow as spiritual beings. Our life experiences help us in our process of spiritual growth and development. As we grow spiritually we continually manifest the Christ that dwells within us. The closer we come into relationship to the Lord, the more our hearts are open to creating heaven on earth.
